What is a Castle Downspout?
Our line of Castle Pipe Downspouts is inspired by the decorative rainware details found on old European castles and churches. While old-world drainpipes were mainly cast iron, there are very few foundries left that make small batch or ornamental rainware. That’s why we designed a new line of downspouts made from sheet-metal as opposed to cast. Each spiral pipe is formed by hand, built from similar material as contemporary downspouts, and finished with decorative details like conductor heads, lipped elbows, hammered or cast brackets, painted edging, or cast ornaments. We have a substantial list of cast ornamental embellishments, and if your home needs a custom theme it’s nearly certain we can make it happen.
Where to use decorative spiral downspouts?
Decorative downspouts have many uses, but the most common places to use them are:
Tall Residential Entrances - Homes where the entrance area is prominent, or has a higher roof line are an excellent place to add decorative elements or spiral downspouts.
Sprawling Single-Level Homes - Wide single-level homes often need vertical accents to keep proportions pleasing. Conductor Heads and Spiral Downspouts both function nicely in this application.
Downtown Commercial Properties - Commercial properties on main streets are an excellent place to go decorative. These applications use functional conductor heads anyway, and the added aesthetic can go a long way.
European architecture (e.g., Spanish, Italianate, Georgian) almost require putting effort into the aesthetic of the gutter system.
